Cedric Downing Jr.
Candidate – Student Government Association - President 2017 - 2018
Mr. Downing resides in Fort Davis, Alabama and is the oldest son of Latoya Downing and Cedric Downing Senior. Here he finished his studies in public school with an advance diploma from Booker T. Washington High School. During his high school years Cedric was a member of the L4L (Lessons for Life) organization, where he acquired leadership skills and involved himself in community service. Cedric said “I always want to present myself as a leader and be an inspiration to my siblings”.
His campus activities include the National Society of Leadership (NSLS) - Officer, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) – Officer, Student Government Association - Chief of Staff and he is a member of the Trenholm 100. Cedric is an Accounting major here at Trenholm State Community College and currently maintains at 3.0 GPA. Upon Graduation Mr. Downing plans are to continue his education at a four-year university and become a Certified Public Accountant.
Cedric states “It is my hope for all of my peers to thrive and be who they are destined to be. I believe in paying it back to the community. Becoming SGA President would give me the platform to bring forth new ideas and suggestions for the betterment of students here at Trenholm State Community College as we continue to grow”.
Hunter W. Smith
Electrical Technology Major
Candidate – Student Government Association - Vice President 2017 - 2018
Hunter Smith is 23 years old and resides in Clanton, Alabama, where he has lived for most of his life. He began his college career at Jefferson State Community College where he was inducted in Sigma Alpha Delta. He transferred to Trenholm State Community College to continue his education, majoring in Electrical Technology and maintaining a 3.7 GPA.
Hunter enjoys fishing, hunting, working out at the local gym, and spending time with his family. He works in the fast food industry to financially put himself through college.
His campus activities include Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) and the National Leadership of Success (NSLS). Upon graduation, Hunter has set goals to work at a major electrical corporation such as Alabama Power Company and in the future own his own business.
Hunter says: “Good moral character is very important to me and hopefully with hard work and an upstanding reputation I will be able to reach this goal in the near future. I am extremely dedicated to fulfilling this commitment. I have devoted much time and energy into achieving this and have no intentions of alternating my plans”.
Hunter is appreciative of the exposure to new opportunities that Trenholm State Community College has afforded him and for that he is sincerely grateful. Hunter says: “I have spoken at some of the recent induction ceremonies and realized throughout the process that I have gained more confidence in public exposure. I would welcome the chance to become SGA Vice President and further my skills of not only interacting with fellow classmates but being involved in more school related activities as well. If I am fortunate enough to be rewarded this honor I will work very hard to represent my school in an appropriate manner.”
Candidate – Student Government Association – Treasurer 2017 - 2018
Demetrius Jackson is a native of Lansing, Michigan. He began is educational journey at Southfield High School, where his was as multi-sport athlete, earning varsity letters in football, wrestling and golf. Demetrius was also a member of the Southfield Student Council were he first has an opportunity to work in student government. His desire to further his education then took him to Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan where he was also a member of the football team. Soon after Demetrius decided to relocate and transfer to Trenholm State Community College.
Demetrius is pursuing an Associate Degree in Accounting and currently maintains a 3.5 GPA. Upon graduating Demetrius plans to utilize his acquired education and leadership skills to become an entrepreneur. Demetrius school activities include Student Government, where he is the 2016-2017 SGA president, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and the Trenholm 100.
Demetrius says: “As an aspiring entrepreneur, I plan to use my skills to start up new business in my community and gain more knowledge from business leaders and mentors. My goal is to become a productive member of my community. I am a true optimist, knowing and understanding that failures are really only life’s lessons and that the key to success is how we recover and learn from those failures. I will be honored and humbled to become your next SGA Treasurer for the 2017-2018 academic year.
