Medical Radiologic Technology Program

The Medical Radiologic Technology program is designed to provide students the necessary training and skills to gain entry level positions in the field of diagnostic radiology as radiologic technologists.  Students will receive didactic, laboratory, and clinical training in preparation for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination.  Radiologic Technologists produce medical images of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems.  Radiologic technologists must follow physicians’ orders and conform to regulations regarding the use of radiation to protect themselves, their patients, and their co-workers from unnecessary exposure.

Mission

The Radiography program mission is to prepare individuals as entry-level radiographers who are able to fulfill the needs of the medical community in the service area by competently and safely performing diagnostic radiographic procedures on adults and children.

Accreditation

The Medical Radiologic Technology program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).   Graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Occupational Choices

Employment is projected to grow faster than average and job opportunities are expected to be favorable.  Although hospitals and medical centers still remain the primary employer, a large number of new jobs will be found in physician’s offices, outpatient imaging centers, mobile imaging companies, industry, education, and marketing and sales.  Radiologic technologists experienced in more than one diagnostic imaging specialty—such as CT, MRI, and mammography—will have the best employment opportunities.  With experience and additional training, staff radiologic technologists may qualify for advanced certifications in Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR), Quality Management (QM), and Cardiovascular Interventional Technology (CIT).  Experienced technologists also may be promoted to supervisor, chief radiologic technologist, and ultimately, department administrator or director.

Average Full-Time Wages

The average national full-time annual wages for a registered (ARRT) Radiologic Technologist is between $39,840 and $57,940.*
