The 645-hour Nursing Assisting/Home Health Aide program is designed to prepare students to be a Nursing Assisting/Home Health Aide.

The Nursing Assistants/Home Health Aides are trained to perform routine tasks under the supervision of nursing and medical staff. They maintain a safe environment and perform selected tasks related to the personal hygiene and comfort of patients in private homes, nursing homes, hospitals, and long-term facilities.  Nursing assistants observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any changes to the nursing or medical staff.

Upon completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to take the Certification Examination for Nursing Assisting given by the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP).

Occupational Choices

The Nursing Assistants/Home Health Aide is projected to be one of the fastest growing occupations through 2014. Numerous job openings and excellent job opportunities are expected. Most jobs are in nursing, residential care facilities, hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices and home health care agencies.

Average Full-time Wage

Median hourly earnings of nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants range from $9.00 to $14.00, hourly rate. The average full-time annual wage of a Certified Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide with experience averages $18,720 to $29,120.*

* Length is based on full-time status of 12-15 credit hours per term, depending on your program. Enrollment in developmental level General Education courses will alter the length of the program.
