Trenholm State Community College

To be considered for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that applies to the award year for which they will enroll at the College and enter the Trenholm State Federal School Code (005734) on their FAFSA in the school selection section in order for the Trenholm financial aid office to receive a processed report. The FAFAS should be filed beginning October 1, each year and is available at www.studentaid.gov. The FAFSA is the only form that is required for students to complete to be considered for the FSEOG Program which is a Title IV, HEA program.

At Trenholm State, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOGs) are awarded to eligible students with demonstrated exceptional financial need who have an EFC of Zero (0). In addition, students must be undergraduates enrolled in an eligible program leading to either a degree or certificate at the College to receive a FSEOG award.

Students must meet citizenship requirements as required for all Title IV Programs, as well as all of the other eligibility requirements listed in Volume I of the Federal Student Financial Aid Handbook.

Effective with the 2017 spring semester, primary consideration for the FSEOG will be given to students with the lowest Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of Zero. A student who receives a Federal Pell Grant award with the EFC of Zero at any time in the award year can be considered for an FSEOG funds as long as FSEOG funds are available. The financial aid office will seek to make FSEOG funds reasonably available throughout the award year.

Although the FSEOG recipient does not have to receive the FPell Grant in the same payment period, the FPell Grant must be received within the award year. Students who are Alabama residents may receive the Federal SEOG and the Alabama Student Assistance Grant (ASAP) in the same semester/term, if needed.

According to Federal Regulations, the minimum FSEOG award is $100 and the maximum FSEOG award is $4,000. Initially, FSEOG Funds at the College will be awarded within a range of $100 to $2000 a semester.

However, students with an EFC of Zero enrolled in a certificate programs are subject to the clock-to-credit hour conversion. Therefore, FSEOG may be awarded to these students in increased amounts since the FPell Grant awards for these students are reduced significantly during the conversion process.

With significant decreases in FSEOG funds awarded to the College and in an effort to extend the availability of FSEOG funds to as many needy students as possible, FSEOG awards may often be offered either in uneven amounts or may have to be awarded one semester at a time based on the recipient’s demonstrated need. Keeping in mind that a student’s total aid may not exceed the student’s financial need (Cost of Attendance – EFC = Need).

FSEOG Award - Summer

Awarding FSEOG will be based on the availability of these funds to students who enroll for the summer term and have an EFC of Zero.

The Alabama Student Assistance Program guidelines, the minimum award amount is $300 and the maximum award amount is $5,000. ASAP awards at Trenholm State usually range from $300 to $2500.

However, students with an EFC of zero enrolled in a certificate programs are subject to the clock-to-credit hour conversion, ASAP may be awarded for increased amounts since the FPell Grant awards for these students are reduced significantly during the conversion process.
