For Teakeya Williams, education is about more than earning a credential—it is about creating opportunities, building confidence, and opening doors to a stronger future. 

Seeking practical skills that could immediately expand her career options, Williams enrolled in Trenholm State Community College’s Commercial Driver License (CDL) training program and earned her Class A CDL. 

“I’ve always believed in having options,” Williams said. “I don’t like the idea of depending on one job, one industry or one skill for my future.” 

Her training at Trenholm State led to a defining moment. In one remarkable day, Williams passed her driving exam, earned her CDL, and secured a professional driving opportunity with Schneider. 

“It meant a lot more to me than just getting a license,” Williams said. “It reminded me that I can learn something completely new, push through the frustrating parts, and come out on the other side with a skill that can literally change my life.” 

Through hands-on training, Williams developed the technical skills needed for commercial driving while also learning the importance of preparation, attention to detail, and perseverance. 

Now, Williams is preparing to begin her professional driving career with Schneider while continuing to explore her interests in artificial intelligence, automation, technology, and entrepreneurship. Her journey demonstrates how workforce-focused education can turn preparation into achievement and achievement into opportunity. 

Williams encourages current and prospective Trenholm State students to view their education as a starting point for continued growth. 

“Trenholm gave me the foundation. Now I get to take that foundation into the real world and continue learning,” Williams said.  Don’t put yourself in a box; utilize Trenholm to obtain your skills—whatever makes sense for the life you are trying to build.” For Williams, the journey is just beginning. Trenholm State helped her turn a new skill into a new opportunity—and she hopes to return to the College one day to share her experiences and inspire future students to create possibilities of their own.
