Are you having trouble deciding your career path? The first step is to understand your interests, abilities, and values. The following free tools can assist you with that process:

  • Myers-Briggs Personality Test
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, also known as the MBTI test, or simply “that personality test,” is a comprehensive assessment that traces your behavioral patterns to one of 16 distinct personality types. It provides a framework for understanding yourself and appreciating the differences in others.
  • Type Focus-Free Registration
Students will discover which careers best suit their individual strengths through three interactive career assessments. They will narrow their search from thousands of career choices to a few dozen and become confident that they are on the right track.
  • MyPlan
MyPlan.com helps students plan more fulfilling lives by making well-informed decisions about their education and careers. Whether you’re deciding on what college to go to, choosing a major, planning ahead for your first career, or thinking about making a career change, MyPlan.com can help you explore options and bring clarity and insight into figuring out what’s right for you.
  • O*NET Interest Profiler
The O*NET Interest Profiler is a tool that helps identify your interests and links them to potential career paths.
  • Holland Codes
Discover the best jobs for you with the powerful system of Holland career codes. This free test will identify your strongest career interest among six occupational themes: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. You’ll discover your top interest area and what that means for you. You’ll also learn how you scored in the other five interest areas. Finally, you’ll see a list of suggested careers based on your profile.

Identifying the right program of study does not mean the same as choosing a career; however, some programs are designed to prepare students for specific careers (dental assisting, for example). If you are one of few who know what career you want, you may want to identify programs that will contribute to your overall preparation. If you are one of those who just can’t seem to figure out what type of career you want, you can explore programs based on the skills and knowledge you would gain and how that education can prepare you for a variety of employment opportunities.
