Radiology-Medical Radiology Technology

Thank you for your interest in our program. The Medical Radiologic Technology program at Trenholm State Community College provides students with the necessary education to gain entry-level positions in the field of medical imaging.

The Radiology Program will begin its next group in Spring of 2026. Applications will be posted here on September 22, 2025, and will be due by mid-October 2025.

There will be a program informational session on Thursday, April 24th, 2025 @ 1:30 p.m. This will be in Building H on the Trenholm (Air Base Blvd) Campus in room H130 (Radiology Classroom)

The first step to be accepted into this program is to complete the college application.

Radiology is a medical discipline that uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases. Radiologic Technologist are the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations. They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care.

Registered Radiologic Technologists – known as “R.T.s” – must complete at least two years of formal education in an accredited hospital-based program or a two-or four-year educational program at an academic institution and must pass a national certification examination through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. To remain registered they must earn continuing education credits.

The Medical Radiologic Technology program’s mission is to prepare individuals as entry-level radiographers who are able to fulfill the needs of the medical community in the service area by competently and safely performing diagnostic radiographic procedures on adults and children.

Program Goals and Student Learning Outcomes

Goal #1

Students will demonstrate clinical competence while safely performing diagnostic radiographic procedures.

Outcomes:
  1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of radiation safety practices.
  2. Students will accurately position patients for diagnostic radiographic procedures.

Goal #2

Students will demonstrate the necessary communication skills to function effectively in the medical community.

Outcomes:
  1. Students will demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate verbally in a healthcare setting.
