Trenholm State Scholars Named to All-Alabama Academic Team
Montgomery, Ala. — Trenholm State Community College proudly recognizes two outstanding students, Destiny Medinus and Carlos Roman, for being selected as members of the All-Alabama Academic Team—an esteemed honor that highlights academic excellence, leadership, and service.
The All-Alabama Academic Team, coordinated by Phi Theta Kappa, is part of a broader network of scholarship and recognition programs that includes the nationally recognized All-USA Academic Team. These programs celebrate high-achieving community college students who excel academically while demonstrating leadership and making meaningful contributions to their communities.
As a statewide recognition program of the Alabama Community College System, the All-Alabama Academic Team was established to complement the national All-USA Academic Team program. Each year, every public community and technical college within the ACCS selects two top students to represent their institution. Medinus and Roman were chosen for their exemplary academic performance, leadership capabilities, and commitment to service beyond the classroom.
According to the Alabama Community College System, honorees are selected by Phi Theta Kappa and institutional leaders based on their “academic excellence and intellectual rigor, leadership and service, and a commitment to extending their education beyond the classroom to benefit society.” This distinction places Medinus and Roman among the most accomplished community college students in the state.
Students named to the All-Alabama Academic Team typically receive scholarships funded through statewide partnerships. Additional competitive scholarships, including the New Century Transfer Pathway and Workforce Pathway Scholarships, may also be awarded to top-performing students who demonstrate exceptional focus in transfer or workforce education pathways.
The All-USA Academic Team, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa and the American Association of Community Colleges, is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious honors for community college students nationwide. This recognition further underscores the caliber of students selected at the state level.
Through their achievements, Destiny Medinus and Carlos Roman exemplify the mission and values of Trenholm State Community College. Their recognition as All-Alabama Academic Team members reflects not only their individual dedication but also the college’s commitment to cultivating student success, leadership, and community impact.
